One Mediator

Let me tell you something, Jesus is all you need to receive the blessing of God and salvation from your sins. "For, there is one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the man Christ Jesus." (1 Timothy 2:5)

Nothing you have ever done, can keep you from experiencing the joy of reconciliation with God through Jesus Christ right now. "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." Because "we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. And He himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins—and not only our sins but the sins of all the world." (1 John 1:9; 2:1-2)

The Gospel of Mark tells the story of a man who was paralyzed and wanted to see Jesus. But Jesus was in a small home crowded with people. Thankfully, the paralyzed man had some ingenious friends. The friends made a hole in the roof and let the paralyzed man down on a mat.

"When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic,

'Son, your sins are forgiven you.'” (Mark 2:5)

Jesus, even went on to heal the paralytic so that he left that room walking!!!

But the scribes who heard Him say this objected, saying,

“Why does this Man speak blasphemies like this?

Who can forgive sins but God alone?” (Mark 2:6)

Jesus didn't disagree. Instead, Jesus gave this reason for His offer of forgiveness,

"...that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins.” (Mark 2:10)

Only Jesus has the power to forgive sins. If anyone else tries, it is blasphemy.

But the Bible warns us of a power that would seek to forgive sins in place of Christ. A religio-political power that would grow out of the Roman empire. A power that would "speak pompous words against the Most High," "exalt himself as high as the Prince of the host," and "cast down the truth to the ground" along with "the place of the sanctuary." (Daniel 7:25; 8:11-12)

In other words, this power speaks words as if it has power to forgive sins by putting itself into the place of Christ as our only Mediator and casting down the truth of God's sanctuary. Even a cursory glance at history and our present moment reveals that this power is the Roman Catholic Church. Take a look at this tweet regarding recent actions taken by the papacy in response to the coronavirus pandemic:

This reminds me of 2015 when the Pope issued a special indulgence proclamation aimed at offering extraordinary forgiveness. Once again the pope is offering forgiveness, this time without the need for confession or last rites. But if the Pope has the power to forgive sins for everyone simply by issuing a declaration, then why doesn't he do that all the time?

You see, there is a real problem with the Roman Catholic claim that you and I need ordained priests, or the pope, to serve as mediators between us and God. First of all, there is no basis for this assertion in the Bible. But secondly, what happens when there is no priest or pope to be found? (As in the current coronavirus crisis)

During this coronavirus outbreak, the Pope is saying that people are being given a temporary free pass on confessing their sins before a priest or receiving last rites. For a limited time, the Pope has issued a proclamation stating that Roman Catholics can go straight to God in prayer and be forgiven. The papacy says that "Those who die having been granted a plenary indulgence avoid purgatory." (Check out this article.)

But that's just it! We do not need a plenary indulgence to avoid purgatory! The Bible denies the existence of purgatory and the Bible reserves the power to forgive sins exclusively for Jesus Christ! At every time, and for all times, we can go directly to God in prayer to ask forgiveness for our sins. Hebrews 4:16 says, "Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need."

And this truth is rooted in Christ's work as our High Priest in heaven's sanctuary. Here is what the book of Hebrews says about that, "Now this is the main point of the things we are saying: We have such a High Priest [Jesus], who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, a Minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle which the Lord erected, and not man." (Hebrews 8:1-2) In other words, Jesus is our High Priest in a heavenly sanctuary.

When the Roman Catholic Church tries to replace Jesus' work in Heaven's sanctuary with a system of earthly priests offering salvation, they cast down the truth of God's sanctuary just as Daniel predicted.

And why is this so important?

Because "Therefore He [Jesus] is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them." (Hebrews 7:25) The realization that Jesus Christ is our High Priest in heaven's sanctuary goes hand in hand with the realization that He is "able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him."

So you see, Jesus is all you need. He is an all-sufficient Savior. Don't let anyone deceive you by saying that you need some special indulgence, dispensation, or an earthly priest to present you acceptable before God. Jesus alone sanctifies and saves. He is all you need. And His sacrifice, His righteousness, His intercession is all you will ever need. My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus' blood and righteousness! Praise God for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

Would you join me in redeeming the time by praying directly to God through Jesus Christ our Lord?

For "we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. He himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins—and not only our sins but the sins of all the world." (1 John 2:1-2)

Jesus said,“I am the way,the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." (John 14:6)
