July 23-29

This past Sabbath we began our sermon series entitled “Belonging” by looking at the what it means to be part of the body of Christ. We discovered that it means that we belong to Him and we belong to each other. If you missed the sermon you can find it on our Facebook page! Riverview became the first Seventh-Day Adventist church in Greeneville to go live when we streamed it. The quality wasn’t the best but we hope to improve it in the weeks ahead. Join us this coming Sabbath as we look at the second biblical image of belonging in our three part series! We will also be starting a new youth Sabbath School class at 10am. You can see some pictures from last Sabbath at the bottom of this post.

Did you know that Riverview runs a vibrant addiction recovery program in the Greeneville Prison? I’ve had the privilege of being involved with this project for about a year now and I have been amazed at the meaningfulness of this ministry. It is a very practical opportunity to fulfill Jesus’ desire in Matthew 25:36 “I was in prison and you visited me.” If you want to get involved with this ministry, our women’s group meets on Mondays and our men’s group meets on Wednesdays, both starting at 7:15pm located at the Greeneville Prison Workhouse on 817 W Summer St.  Feel free to call if you would like more information. (909) 363-5991.

You can see some pictures of the teams operating this prison ministry below. The woman’s group includes: Irene Duroe, Diane Vance, Carol Haney, Kirsten Elliot and Susan Nicolan who will be baptized this Sabbath. The men’s group is led by John Duroe and Nelson Thomas along with some friends we have made (Glenn and Jim) from Alcoholics Anonymous.

The women’s group has been very successful helping some of the female inmates get into a rehab program. They recently got court approval to help a third woman take that step. The men’s group has been successful as well, and at the end of one of our most recent meetings one inmate even requested Bible studies to understand more of what we believe. Praise the Lord! This is a vibrant witness to the compassionate love and transforming power of God in our community.

Please keep this important ministry in your prayers and, even better, show up to help if you can. “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few.38 Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.” Matthew 9:37-38

Last Sabbath I had the privilege of officiating at a wedding for Josh and Felicia Crabtree. Felicia is the niece of Sherry Edwards who became an Adventist through the ministry of our physicians at Takoma. It was a pleasure performing the wedding for this couple and I had the opportunity to more fully introduce them to Christ’s desire to be the foundation of every home.

Here are some pictures from last Sabbath! O what a joyous service it was.

Sure was great having the Ondreijka clan for a visit

Irene Duroe led a fantastic children’s story that had the children making a presentation to us. They did a great job!

Colporteurs came for a visit and shared some inspiring testimonies!

Friendships are one of the things that make any church a special place. This is especially true at Riverview!

So, come join us sometime, check it out for yourself, and lay down your burdens, down by the riverside!
