Day 8, Follow me
When Peter saw him, he said to Jesus, “Lord, what about this man?” Jesus said to him, “If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow me! John 21:21-22
Pain, anguish, desperation, anger, disbelief, and many other thoughts and feelings have been going on through my head and heart these past couple of days. I see people hurting and I hurt, I also look up to heaven and there I see Jesus hurting, wanting to make all things new.
In this passage, we find Jesus and Peter having their first real conversation after Peter had denied Jesus. I imagine, Peter had been around Jesus, but hadn't been able to look Him in the eye.
Have you ever felt that way? you know when there's something wrong between two people but they aren't able to verbalize it? This is usually when things blow over, for when we aren't able to verbalize or be heard, we just blow up and blow over.
Peter felt guilty, trapped and probably discouraged, for who he thought he was, was shown to be a lie. This is when we usually give up, give in, give out; Whenever we look ahead and see no way out, when we don't understand, despair, pain, anguish and finally we stop believing. Usually, this is when Jesus intervenes, not like a thunder ready to destroy but with a whisper and defuses the whole situation by coming to the heart of the issue.
Do you love me Peter? yes, was the answer, Do you really love me? YES, I DO. Peter, do you now know what it entails to love me? Do you know that you may lose your life? answer me, Do you love me? With tears and quivering voice i can hear Peter saying, YES I DO! Jesus looks at peter and says, I know you do, and you'll die for me because of your love!
Don't let death be the focus of your life, while you still have breath, do two things:
1. Feed my sheep.
2. Follow Me.
Yes Lord, replied Peter, I will. Then looking back he saw John and asked how is it going to go for Him? Jesus replied, don't worry about that, FOLLOW ME.
Today as we the world shows its true colors, as the enemy in its desperation seeks to destroy everything before Jesus comes back, I want to remind you that Jesus says: FOLLOW ME! Don't allow pain, anguish, hopelessness of the future ti turn you away from following Christ. Today, Jesus looks at you and sees your heart and asks, Do you love me? if you do, nothing else matters to Him, He says follow me.
Prayer for today:
Help me to bring life and hope to a world that so desperately needs it. Teach me to be an instrument of the gospel and not a stumbling block to those that want to see you. Teach me to be humble, to be able to show the world that you God are more powerful than evil. Teach me to hear you when you speak. Today I say I LOVE you! Thank you for loving me back, In the name of Jesus I pray. AMEN
