Day 7, The secret of prayer

And behold, there came a voice to him and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” 1 Kings 19:13

I'm a horrible conversation kind of a person. I'm terrified of it, i'm scared! I would rather talk to a thousand people in stage than have a one on one with a stranger! When I have to make a phone call, I sweat, I think of every excuse that I'm able to think of and sometimes even try to make Gina make the phone calls for me. I don't have a phobia, but I'm terrified! What if they don't understand me? What if they make fun of my accent? and the list goes on.

Thinking about this a few weeks back, I realized what the problem was, It may not be your problem, but it surely was (probably still is) mine. I am constantly thinking about what I'm supposed to say. That's the problem, we are constantly thinking of what we say, how we sound, how we look! Yet when we talk, we probably should spend more time listening to what is being said!

That's the secret to praying! Listening more than talking. Instead of spending all your time trying to find the correct words or the right combination of phrases to unlock unlimited power, we should learn to listen more. Our bible text for today tells half the story, Elijah had just ran for His life! When God says this, it sounds like God isn't listening, yet the next verses, it shows how God begins to relive Elijah from the burden of ministry. God listens intently to what we have to say, and we should listen intently to what He has to say.

Elijah leaves with a plan of action, He knew exactly what to do. Every time Joshua talks with God, Joshua then knows exactly what to do. It is not that complicated! When we speak to God, stay and listen to what He has to say. Elijah, Moses, Joshua and other Bible characters aren't more special than you and I. The difference, is that they learn to listen, they stayed, for in His presence life will always change!

As you pray today, tell God everything that you are experiencing, and then just stay and listen! Maybe today He will whisper back and say Hi, i've been expecting you, we've got to talk for I have big plans for you.

Today's Prayer

Today, God teach us to listen, to hear and process what you have to say.
